Benedictine Monks of La Bouenza (Rep. of Congo) [May 2026]
Construction of a barn
Project #26M040
The La Bouenza monastery was founded by the Abbey of La Pierre-qui-Vire (France). In 1998, the war led to the monastery's closure. It officially reopened in 2008. Today, the community comprises 12 brothers, including 6 novices.
Project:
The monks own 500 hectares of land and wish to resume the cattle farming established by the founding fathers before the war—an operation that used to supply affordable meat to the local population. This initiative will enable the community to achieve economic self-sufficiency while providing meat for the local people and manure for agricultural crops.
The brothers therefore plan to build a masonry barn measuring 12 by 10 meters and a 400-meter fence.
Financial assistance: 18 122 euros
