Benedictine nuns of Itapecerica da Serra (Brazil) [May 2026]
A sister on the Cistercian Monastic Formation Course (CFM)
Project #26M019
The monastery of Nossa Senhora da Paz was founded by the Abbey of Santa Maria de São Paulo in 1974. The monastery was elevated to the status of abbey in 1983 and is part of the Benedictine Congregation of Brazil. The community comprises around twenty nuns.
The sisters have developed a range of craft activities: ceramics, sculptures, cards, biscuits, cakes, chocolates…
Through an association supervised by a sister from the community, the sisters provide spiritual and material assistance to disadvantaged families in the surrounding area, notably by distributing food once a week to those most in need.

Project:
Sister Clara has been sent to the Cistercian Order’s Monastic Formation Course (CFM), which will take place from 24 August to 18 September 2026. The CFM is held under the patronage of the Pontifical Academy of St Anselm (Rome).
The CFM consists of three five-week periods spread over three consecutive years, from late August to late September. The CFM is devoted to the study of monastic sources and tradition, patristic and liturgical knowledge, the spirituality specific to the monastic ideal and cultural heritage, an introduction to the humanities, and above all a sound knowledge of Holy Scripture and monastic theology. A number of cultural and spiritual visits enrich the intellectual formation.
Financial assistance would be required to cover the registration fees.
Financial assistance: 2,915 euros
