Benedictine Sisters of Moundou, Lolo (Chad) [May 2026]
Purchase of beds for the girls' hostel
Project #26M045

At the request of the Bishops' Conference of Chad, Saint Agatha’s Monastery was founded in 2004 by Congolese Benedictine nuns from Lubumbashi, DRC (Congregation of the Queen of Apostles). It is the first and only monastic community foundation in the country. Initially, the nuns used a diocesan-owned house located 20 km from Moundou; later, a monastery was built in the village of Lolo on land gifted to the Bishop by the village’s Muslim chief.
The village has a population of some 6,000 people living largely on the fringes of modernity: there is no potable water, no full-cycle school, no health center, and no major commercial outlet. Residents have no choice but to obtain supplies from Moundou, the country’s second-largest industrial city, located 20 km away.
The nuns cultivate sesame, peanuts, millet, and yams, and have begun growing cotton (one of the sisters holds a degree in agronomy). They also founded a small school where they taught for many years; today, the teaching staff consists of outside instructors.
Project:
The sisters wish to increase the capacity and comfort of the home for the girls—often already mothers—whom they support by providing the right conditions for them to complete their studies. The sisters need financial assistance to purchase 20 new beds.
Financial assistance: 10,000 euros
