Benedictine Sisters of Salvador/Bahia (Brazil) [May 2026]

Roof refurbishment

Project #26M041

The monastery was founded in 1977 by the Benedictine community of Belo Horizonte (Brazil). It was raised to the status of an abbey in 1997. The community comprises about twenty sisters. The sisters make liturgical vestments, embroidery, jams, and incense.

Based on the outskirts of the city, the sisters work with the impoverished population. Most families in the neighborhood are headed by a single parent, and violence between rival youth gangs is rife. The sisters established a weaving class for unemployed local women. They also set up a community center featuring a daycare that accommodates up to 200 children, as well as projects for adolescents, such as a dance school with 230 students.

Project:

The roofs of several buildings—such as the library and the workspace—need to be renovated. Financial assistance would be required to install ceramic tiles, which would also provide better protection against heat.

Financial assistance: 10,000 euros
