Kokoubou (Benin)
Studies in philosophy for six monks
Project 3522 - Studies in philosophy
Bénin - Monastery of Kokoubou, OCSO
The monastery was founded in 1972 by the Cistercian abbey of Bellefontaine (France) at the request of Mgr Bernardin Gantin, then auxiliary bishop of Cotonou. In 2014, the community elected its first Beninese prior. The community has around twenty brothers, including five temporarily professed and one novice.
The community makes curd cheese, which is sold in several shops as far away as Cotonou, jam and poultry. In recent years, they have invested in the phytotherapy sector, producing their own products (moringa powder, vernonia powder, karate bark, propolis-based ointment).
Request
Six students from the community are studying at the community’s studium, which offers courses in philosophy, methodology, theology, liturgy, lectio divina and classical languages; they are in their second year of philosophy. Financial assistance is needed to cover the professors’ fees and the cost of the computers the students need.
Requested amount: 5,300 euros
