Cameroon - Monastery of Babete (OSB)
Project 6625 - Scholarship for a Sister
The monastery of St Benedict was founded in Otele in 1961 by the nuns of the Abbey of Sarnen (Switzerland), including two Cameroon sisters. It was transferred to Babete in 1967. Today the community comprises some 50 Cameroon sisters.
As a spiritual resource for believers in the search of God and interior peace the monastery is recommended by the diocese. A large number of faith activities take place there, such as recollection, retreats, spiritual accompaniment. In addition, the needs and difficulties of the local population have led the sisters to open an orphanage, a maternal school, a dispensary and spiritual accompaniment of guests.
To ensure the efficacity of all these needs the community is sending Sister Suzanne Mafodzue for a theological formation of three years to the Institute of Theology and Pastorate for Religious at Youndé.
